Building Trades & renovations Instructor/ SkillsUSA Advisor, Travis Black, began his teaching career at the Valley Academy for Career and Technology Education five years ago with a passion & desire to share his expertise of the construction industry while leading students into becoming compassionate & hard-working members of their community. Travis brings a wealth of knowledge to the construction program gained through his experiences in all aspects of residential & commercial construction, heavy equipment operation as well as those skills developed as a Navy veteran having served in Operations Desert Storm & Southern Watch.

Travis is a promoter of CTE not only locally but throughout the state having presented at the Arizona SkillsUSA conference, the Arizona ACTE conference, & the National ACTE Career Vision conference. Combining volunteer service, work-place experience, attainment of multiple industry certifications, dual enrollment credits & SkillsUSA into his program, Travis has produced students with excellent skills & leadership abilities.

His construction students & SkillsUSA members have completed more than 8,000 hours of volunteer service. His program’s advisory board has a membership of nearly 30. Students in the SkillsUSA chapter have served as regional & state officers & have earned multiple awards including first place nationally for Models of Excellence Workplace Skills. When not working tirelessly with his construction students, Travis enjoys motorcycles, rodeos, coaching wrestling, & spending time with family.
